I haven't been very good lately at planning in advance my workout schedule. I liked the scheduling of Insanity, like all of the other Beachbody programs so I had it laid out for me. Right now I am throwing some RevAbs, Brazil Butt Lift and P90X together, then teaching Turbo Kick at the gym with some weights thrown in! BUT, I find if I am not scheduled the workouts are not getting completed! I am also waiting with great anticipation for Turbo Fire which will be released at the end of June to coaches...give me some off the wall music and some fun moves and I can't not that makes the workouts rock right from the beginning! How is your fit plan rolling along?

It is almost the 4th week in May, summer is rolling in, how is your fit plan going? Have you been sticking with your workouts? Have you been eating healthier? What are you plans for next month...are you going to step it up, change it up or sit back on the sofa? This is a great opportunity to evaluate what is working for you and what isn't. Have you...found a fun activity you enjoy that you will turn to when you need some exercise? Found the foods you should keep out of your house at all costs? Food selection

So we all have cravings, we all have favorite foods, we all have things we could devour mountains of if given the opportunity! So we need a way to prevent the latter from happening, we need a plan!
Do you have a specific food craving or just a sweet tooth? On the other hand it could be a gooey cheese craving, or salty chips, or a combo of any of these!
Easiest solution is to just avoid it altogether!!! But you may be setting yourself up for a big explosion when you and said food meet up in a dark alley!
If it is a sweet tooth, you can buy individual serving packages of dark chocolate, or some sweet that you enjoy, but don't LOVE LOVE LOVE---as individual packages don't make a gosh darned difference if it is 3xL!!! Save the favorites for when you are out or for a special occasion, and THEN get an individual serving. You might say that it is cheaper to buy a larger volume and save it...(eye roll), how many times has that really worked for you? If you are trying to reach big goals, big changes you do have to make a few sacrifices...I just gave you an option so you aren't totally cutting it out so bear with me!
Gooey cheese? Have you melted a low fat Mozzarella cheese stick? Gooey! Heat it on a whole wheat tortilla with turkey breast, fold in half and voila! Grate low fat cheese on anything and melt it! Just use less and try low fat and you will be amazed at what might satisfy you!
Crunchy and salty? There are some new POP chips that are pretty good...the big thing is, just don't buy a big ass bag and keep it in your pantry! If you must, divide it straight into individual portions...most for the kids, a few for you! Have you tried celery with a little bit of Peanut Butter? or even a sprinkle of salt or hummus or plain! Big crunch, filling, almost no calories!
OK that is my story. Avoidance, limit access to, don't totally deny but limit portions by keeping it OUT of the house! Don't enter the location of cravings when you are starving! You should never be starving!!! Eat 5 smaller meals a day and you should be able to keep major cravings at bay too!

What is your relationship with food?

We all have a different relationship with food!

Some people think of it as basic nourishment, can make healthy choices with appropriate portions and all is good. Those people are few and far between!

Most of us have access to fast food, convenience packaging, have been brought up with it, have used it on a daily basis and are addicted to it! High Fructose Corn Syrup, Trans Fats, Saturated Fats, Deep Fried, French Fries, Potato Chips, Creamy dressing, Sugar...these are ingredients that make me cringe a little bit now!
I have adjusted my lifestyle to looking at ingredient lists, looking at how things are cooked and making wise choices to help me stay healthy! I just had 1 egg and 3 eggs whites scrambled in a whole wheat tortilla with 1/4 of an avocado and some green salsa for lunch, followed by 2 sticks of celery. I was having a sweet craving so I had a fat free sugar free yoplait yogurt to finish off! Not a small lunch, but I am satisfied and it was all good for me. To make this possible I had the fixings in my house that I just needed to pull out of my fridge! I don't buy the foods that I have no impulse control over anymore! Yes, I have kids, they don't need the junk either! I buy cookies sometimes, but never my favorite! I bought them dinner on the way to the gym last night (they were going to childcare while I taught a class), they love a hamburger and fries, but last night we did Subway on wholewheat bread with ham, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and some mayo! On the way home they told me that was the best sandwich ever! I don't think they ever raved about their hamburger on the way home before...just the toy that came with it!

How about when you go out to dinner, or you are at a wedding with a buffet! Do you have to try everything, do you have to try one of each dessert at holiday time? Stop for a minute and ask yourself why? Are you never going to see that food again? Are you going to lose something if you don't have some? Yes, food is yummy, yes the chocolate cheesecake is delectable and feels good in your mouth...but is it really worth it? You need to change your relationship with food if you want to make changes in your health! You need to make some sacrifices at times! Maybe an occasional splurge, but balance it! Decrease your calories the rest of the day (or week), add extra exercise. What difference does a pound or two make over the holidays make you say at the time...but how about that swimsuit you want to wear this summer? Do those pounds make a difference now?

It isn't just about how we look though, it is our health! We should all sit down and talk with an overweight senior citizen and find out how difficult it is to get up and down, how many medications they are on, what their life expectancy is? It isn't about sacrificing fun, it is just about making some better choices! Don't tell me buying healthy food is too expensive when you eat out 4 times a week. Veggies seem healthy when you throw half of them out because you didn't get a chance to eat them!!! So eat them before they get rotten! Eat at home, cook your food a healthy way and know what you are putting in your body! If you plan ahead, prep your food in advance, it doesn't take too long to make a meal! Focus, plan, schedule, make it work, but help yourself...only you can!

Wow, apparently I have some passion about this ;) I overeat at times, especially holiday treats, but I am teaching myself too, I am working through this too! Wondering how to start your fitness journey, or take it up a notch?

How did I begin my fitness transformation 3 1/2 years ago? I made a decision and I set some goals.

A good friend of mine told "we are joining the gym"! We both had two young children, we had both enjoyed fairly fit lives in the past, but we were now feeling trapped in the house with our children and we had allowed the baby weight to hold us back, and our youngest children were now old enough to be in childcare. This is not so uncommon a decision for people to make, to join the gym! We made a second plan though, we challenged each other and our friends to a weight loss competition! Largest percentage of weight lost in 3 months wins! I am a competitive kind of girl, so this was the way to get me working even harder at the gym and just as importantly, watching my calories at home! I won...I didn't manage to get any of the money I thought we had all committed to the challenge at the beginning, BUT---it was just in time for a vacation with my hubby and we went clothes shopping as I needed a new wardrobe!
When I had worked out in the past I had run on the treadmill, I had lifted a few weights, I had gone for bike rides, but this time was different!  I read magazines and listened to trainers and I learned how to really exercise!  You need to push your limits, you need to challenge yourself, you need to go outside your comfort zone if you want to see results.  Set a schedule and stick to your schedule and go go go!!!
This was 3 years ago now! When we started the challenge I weighed around 195. I planned to get to 180, the weight I had been through college and my twenties. As we were working at it though I thought, hey, why not shoot for 175. Well I busted through that 175 and slid to a halt at 170. I took my first step to holding my accountability by becoming an instructor at the gym.  I have taught Turbo Kick for 2 years now and I sub for PUMP and Interval classes!  Needing to stay fit enough to teach a roomful of people definitely motivates you to stay on top of your game :)
I held 170-175 for 2 years when I realized that I would like to lean up a bit more. My mother thinks I am too skinny, but that is because she has never known me under 180. I have never had a flat belly, I know I can get a flat belly if I just apply myself a little bit more, so why not? I missed out on being a fit teenager so why not be a super fit 36 year old :)
So in January I reapplied myself and branched out again by learning more about Beachbody. What's new with Beachbody?

As I mentioned the other day, I was just at the Beachbody Coach Summit in LA! While there we learned about some of the new programs coming out, the updated releases of current programs and useful details on current products. So here we go!

Slim in 6 with Debbie Siebers has recently been updated and will have a new infomercial in July.

Tony Horton has many updates coming up. 10-minute trainer in late 2010, Power 90, P90X will have a 4th new infomercial in late 2010, and if you sign up to get the P90X One on Ones you will get insider previews on the making of....P90neXt due to be released in the Fall of 2011.

Shaun T. is releasing the sequel to Insanity at the end of 2010, the Insanity Asylum!  I missed a pic with Shaun :(  I have loved doing Insanity, but my body is ready for a lower key program for a little while ;)

I just had an AMAZING weekend at the Beachbody Coach Summit in Los Angeles this past weekend! The coaches are great, fun, fit people, all with a common goal of helping others get fit and healthy!
