What is your WHY?

Why do you do the things you do?  Do they help you get to a destination or a goal?  or are they just "something to do"?  This goes for everything.  Work, play, fitness, what you eat...everything!  Everything you do has a purpose or a meaning behind it.

Usually you work to make money to support your basic living and other things you enjoy doing.  You play doing the activities you enjoy.  You exercise to stay fit and healthy.  You eat to nourish your body!  But these things can all be enjoyable...ALL of them, not just the play part!  If you don't like things the way they are then maybe it is time to change them!  Find a workout you enjoy, if you have been doing the same thing for years, look for a sport or a new class you could enjoy.  Find a new recipe book to seek recipes that appeal to you...cutting out the crap doesn't have to be so limiting, and lacking in flavor.  Work.  How many people actually enjoy their jobs?  Inevitably there will be something about your job that you prefer not to do, but overall is it like pulling teeth to head to work every day?  Have you put any thought into looking for a new job?

Change is tough!  Breaking bad habits is tough!  They say it takes 21 days to make a habit.  So start working on making a change for the better!

I often debate with myself why I do some of the things I do.  Why am I starting a new fitness program and focusing hard on the nutrition when I have less than 10 pounds to lose...why, because I can!  I am relatively young, I am healthy, I am a role model for my children and for friends and family that read what I write and watch what I do.  I spent most of my teenage years overweight and missed out on great opportunities in sports and school because I didn't want to change, I didn't want to challenge myself.  I will never limit myself again by not stepping up to the challenge, nor will I model to my children that is an option!  So six pack abs, here I come!  I will post on this blog updates of the next 90 days, but join me on the Beachbody message boards to share in my journey, post messages about your own, and let's reach for the challenge!!!  You can click on the link above or head to www.GetFitWithNicola.com sign up for FREE and head to the message boards.  My posts are under "Working out in Bakersfield".

The Bakersfield Loser has been crowned!!!

Just over 3 months ago, over 300 people started a weight loss journey in Bakersfield, California. They committed to weekly weigh ins, they committed to eating well and exercising regularly, they committed to change their lives. Did they all follow through for the 3 month journey, no, but over 50% of them did, so statistically, that is pretty impressive! They did though lose over 7200 pounds (over 23 pounds per person on average), the top five lost between 28 and 33.4% of their body weight...by working hard, staying committed and following through.
Congratulations to the official crowned champion "David Bonilla"---80 pounds in 3 months and looking great!
I hope and pray they are able to stick with it for the long haul now! The big losers have obviously been making some major sacrifices to accomplish this so are going to need to adjust their fitness and eating to suit their lifestyles a bit more appropriately! A difficult adjustment as some people are either 100% or nothing. You can stay at 100% when you workout, just cut back to a hour a day! When you are eating, stick with healthy whole grains, lean meats, fruits and veggies and it is hard to go too wrong....except if you ignore portion control :)
Some of the participants have made great headway but still have some goals to reach in terms of weight loss. So do you stick with the hard core regimen you have been following? If it works for you, why not? Do it until you are where you want to be, you will get there faster. OR you could slow it down a little, as you need to take the time to enjoy your world if you want to keep up the energy and momentum! The road to weight loss is a tough journey, but these people have proven it can be done! Congratulations and good luck on your continued lifestyle of healthy choices!!! Check out www.bxfitness.com

How are those goals?

We are in the third full week of January 2010!  How is the new decade working for you?  You should have your feet and most of your body wet with your new routines (and the rain if you live in California ;)).  Now is about the time that people start to lose interest in these plans they have set in motion, these goals they would like to meet, these new lifestyle they have striven to live!  How about you?
I returned from my Christmas holidays of little exercise (which I blamed on the cold weather, lack of a gym and lack of time), lots of sugar and red wine (it was Christmas, why not indulge a little), and with a nasty cough and cold!  Hmmmm.  Bloated, scale up a little and sick...not so good.  I made some goals to get back to the exercising 4+ days a week, eat healthier (maybe cut out wine at least during the week)-less desserts, more veggies, and stay healthy!  I am training for a half marathon...which is in 5 short days (yikes it better stop raining down south), so that has ensured I keep moving.  I have plans to increase my weight lifting once I recover from my race and I am hoping to challenge my body to P90X...designed to transform my body from regular to ripped in 90 short days!!!  In attempt to improve digestion, health and workout recovery I am starting a supplement called Shakeology.  You drink it as a shake and it boasts to increase energy, regularity, weight loss, and to make you feel great!  Not cheap but if it does all that, I think it may be a keeper.  I will give the Shakeology a few weeks with regular exercise before I start P90X, just so I don't get the results confused and I will let you know how it goes.  These two products are both produced by Beachbody and you can ask me more about them or learn more on my website.
So enough about me, what are you doing to keep yourself focused on this crazy thing called exercise and getting/staying fit?  If you want to keep yourself accountable you can join the message board on the Beachbody site...for free...and I will get on there daily, post these blogs there too, and we can chat about how you are doing and where you want to progress to.  Right now my thread is called "Working out in Bakersfield", but you don't need to be from Bakersfield to join in!  www.bakofit.com
Let me know how you are doing and how I can help you!
